BYSR: Why We sleep
Awoken at 2am by a false fire alarm, I staggered of the hotel and waited for the fire department to clear the building. Once everything was deemed safe I stumbled back in to my room. I struggled to fall back asleep and as you can imagine the next day was a bit rough. I was agitated, my body hurt, I was mentally slow. No shock there.
We all know that a bad night’s sleep can make the following day miserable. What most of us ignore is that long term losses of sleep that may seem insignificant in the short term can damage your life in the same way one bad night can damage your following day.
In Why We Sleep, Professor Matthew Walker, director of UC Berkeley's Sleep and Neuroimaging Lab, not only takes us through all the bad stuff that happens when we don’t sleep but explores ways we can start to improve our habits to make sure we don’t miss precious shut eye. If you are interested in health, athletic performance, feeling and looking better you need to pick this book up.
